September is going to be lit over here at the Literary Hoarders. Some of our most anticipated books are being released in September and many of them are great big chunky ones. Our favourite kind! Below is just three that we know are being released in September. We’re certain more will come to our attention but for now these are the hot ticket items.

The one both of us are eager to grab the moment it hits the shelves is The Hallmarked Man by Robert Galbraith (J.K. Rowling). The 8th in the Cormoran Strike series, this is one we’ve been actively tracking Rowling’s progress on, growing increasingly terrified of its final page length. The publication date shows September 9th and while the cover still hasn’t been revealed, the page count according to Goodreads is 1,072 pages. We’ve bought almost every hardcover in this series upon release so it’s doubtful we’d stop the habit for this brick. It has to complete the series already weighing down our shelves. The Running Grave ended on an excellent cliffhanger and with some much needed character development, so we’re dizzy with anticipation for The Hallmarked Man. Will she let us down or give us the most thrilling in the series yet?

One of the most anticipated September releases for Hoarder Penny is the 22nd instalment in the Lynley series by Elizabeth George. I’ve been reading this series since the late 90s when it was recommended to me by a long former co-worker. I was in a deep slump way back then and asked for help for something that would get me out of it. Elizabeth George was recommended and I’ve been a devoted fan ever since. You used to be able to set your watch to every 2 years on the dot for the next in the series, but Elizabeth George has been a little looser lately and her last one had us waiting for 4 long years! A Slowly Dying Cause follows 3 years since that one – Something to Hide (which I thought was one of her very best). I rip through these and they are always pleasingly big and chunky. This one is 656 pages and says its release is September 23rd. I think it’s absolutely incredible she has been writing this series for very close to 40 years and they’ve been so incredibly satisfying with every book.

Remember my adoration for Nino Haratishwili’s The Eighth Life? It was the very best book I read last year. I still think about it. I’m actually quite desperate to read something as epic and all-consuming right now! Imagine my excitement to find she has a new and just as wonderful sounding story coming out on September 9th. It’s almost as chunky as The Eighth Life with a page count of 736 pages. “A page turning epic of loss and redemption about a group of four women who formed a deep friendship in the years leading up to Georgia’s independence from the Soviet Union.” I cannot wait!!
September looks to be a fulfilling one in our reading selections and these page counts alone will take us beyond September to complete. Once again, cannot wait and hurry up September! We may have to alert the bookstores to let them know we’ll be rushing in almost every week to get our copies hot off the presses. (Here’s to hoping that pesky tariff war is done and dusted because I don’t think I’m prepared for the sticker shock that is being warned about right now for Canadian books. We’re already victims of absurd prices. :-( )
