Were you like we were here at the Literary Hoarders that proclaimed The Book Thief to be one of the very best books ever read? (Even though we may still struggle with how this is considered YA?) Did you cry all over the pages and then want to go back and immediately start reading it all over again? Did you not just love that the narrator of this story was Death?
Did you also not cry buckets of tears when you heard there was a movie in the works and all over this Movie Trailer too? But did you not also cry all over again because The Book Thief seemed to vanish from theatres almost in the same weekend it premiered? We had such grand plans to go see this…but then poof! It seemed to have vanished just as quickly as its release! Well, now we’re so extremely delighted to be able to offer this Blu-ray so that you can watch it, yet all in the blissful privacy of your own home (which for us is a win-win – no embarrassing snot-filled tissues and streaky mascara to present when leaving the movie theatre!)
So, please Send Us an Email! Please also do so by FRIDAY, MARCH 14th!
THE BOOK THIEF
Based on the beloved best-selling book comes an “extremely moving” (Leonard Maltin, Indiewire) story of a girl who transforms the lives of those around her during World War II, Germany. When her mother can no longer care for her, Liesel (Sophie Nélisse) is adopted by a German couple (OSCAR® Winner Geoffrey Rush* and OSCAR® Nominee Emily Watson**). Although she arrives illiterate, Liesel is encouraged to learn to read by her adoptive father. When the couple then takes in Max (Ben Schnetzer), a Jew hiding from Hitler’s army, Liesel befriends him. Ultimately, words and imagination provide the friends with an escape from the events unfolding around them in this extraordinary, acclaimed film directed by Brian Percival (Downton Abbey).
