I first read about this I Spy challenge on Naomi’s Consumed by Ink (she did a Canadian version). She found it on Rebecca Foster’s blog, Bookish Beck (who did it using only her TBR books). It looked like so much fun, so I decided to copy down the categories and play I Spy based on what I would find on my own shelves. I limited my choices to only coming from my “wall of books” downstairs, and not the two shelves of books being filled in with my most recent books I’ve purchased or have been sent to me, located in the family room. I had to limit my choices somehow, and you’re supposed to do this challenge in under 5 minutes!
The instructions are to go about it like this: Find a book on your bookshelves that contains (either on the cover or in the title) an example for each category. You must have a separate book for all 20, get as creative as you want and do it within five minutes!
Now, I think I was able to do this in five minutes? But more than likely not. ha! I did go with the very first book that I found that went with the category – no hmming or haahing over any choices (because I found there were more than one that could fit each category). Also, my wall of books is in the basement of our home and the lighting casts this ugly yellow colour everywhere, so the pictures aren’t as sharp looking as I had hoped. I didn’t edit the photos at all and I probably should have done. * shrugs *
Of the 20 books, I have read four of them, so it’s predominately an I Spy: TBR version!

The four books I’ve read: Elephants in My Backyard, The Bad Mother, Girls Burn Brighter and Evergreen. Naomi did a Bonus Category: Canoes. I didn’t find too many books on my shelves with canoes. But, when I was looking I did find one category that could have become my own Bonus Category, but I completely forgot to assemble what those were and now it’s left my mind. Old brain. Perimenopausal brain. ;-) Sorry!
Do you think you could find 20 books on your shelves that fit these categories? I had fun playing I Spy and if you do too, please let me know which 20 make your list!

What a fun meme. It would have taken me way more than five minutes too! And you’ve reminded me that I’ve been meaning to read something by Patrick Gale.
I have a couple of Patrick Gale’s on my shelf, and A Place Called Winter was such a Must Have for me – but I still haven’t read it! I really need to remedy that issue!
All yours fit perfectly! And I don’t think I’ve read any of them!
It was fun to do for sure! If only to put those books in front of me to realize that I really do need to read them!! ;-)
I have only read one of those: The Wind is Not a River. It’s excellent! I recommend it.
Oh fantastic! Thanks Anne – I just did a 20 Books of Summer and The Wind is Not a River is on it – now I’m excited to read it.
